Helllloooo out there

*briefly popping her head up for a breath from her dissertation submersion*

I have hesitated posting since there hasn't been much to say lately.

Here is a brief list describing the past 2.5 weeks:
  • I have first drafts off all my science chapters!
  • I think my entire dissertation sucks.
  • I really hope everyone feels this way when they are a week out from submitting it.
  • I'M A WEEK OUT FROM SUBMITTING IT TO MY COMMITTEE!!!
  • So much work left to do.
  • Instead I'm blogging.
  • I started running again, yay!
  • But I'm only up to two miles, boo.
  • Also, the hills aggravate my butt, boo.
  • And the hills are unavoidable.
  • And they are big ass hills.
  • I love my new place.
  • Even though sometimes junkies shoot up behind the building and then yell things.
  • But in Ames, I lived less than a quarter mile from the fire station and hospital, so my city apartment is overall quieter than my Ames hous.
  • I officially no longer have a valid driver's license because this state is a big fat stupid dumb state that makes it impossible to prove residency.
  • This is awesomely not a huge deal since I can walk or bike everywhere I need to go quite easily.
  • I should probably go back to work.
On edit: I think I shall go to this bar mitzvah on Wednesday, in honor of Joe. This bar is like a quarter mile from me and really is like a beer snobs paradise (I'm looking at you Glaven).

A week away!

Running! Big ass hills!

Enjoy the beer snob's paradise. And good luck getting the dissertation (which doesn't suck, I'm sure) complete and submitted.

WHEW!!!

good luck on your dissertation... it must be a huge relief to be nearly done with it and it being out of your hands!

It was as full 2 years before I could look at my own dissertation (aka The Big Shitty) without feeling ill. Remember, 'it is the worst work you will ever do'.

glad to hear that you're running again! now get yourself a hot jewish nerd, submit the diss, and watch your fabulous seattle life start.

Pffftttt! You can look all you want, but you can't see me unless you link to me! Fat lot of good all your scientific training did me when it came to link-lurve!

On the other hand .... Mmmmmm ... beeeeeeeeerrrr ...

64 beers on draft! I bet NOT ONE sux, too!

The Pac. NthWst is where the microbrewery explosion happened, and it's where I first learned to love good beer - in Portland, but Seattle's no slouch. You need good beer in places where it rains 250 days out of the year.

I'm sure your dissertation will be gripping reading, sister!

Not that I will read it personally. I'm waiting for the movie version.

And stay away from Big @$$ hills. The fact that they're no good for your @$$ is right in their name! You couldn't figure that out?

Some scientist you are.

Okay, okay! I'm backing off now ...

My word verification word: "pance".

I was told this place was pance optional; that's why I'm not wearing any.

Glaven, I sincerely apologize for the lack of link love. Of course, you made up for it by commenting, which thus has your blog addy, so self-love obviously rules the day. But just to make you feel better, I went back and edited and loved you up.

I don't think you're in Iowa anymore, Danielle. Click your heels together, take a deep breath and say...

Best wishes for a productive week... that isn't too debilitating!

Good luck finishing up your dissertation, and congratulations on your move to Seattle. It's so beautiful up there, and there are so many great places to run.

A week before I submitted my dissertation for review, a very wise person (my best friend Elsie) told me, "it doesn't need to be great, it just needs to be finished" and yes, I KNEW my dissertation sucked...

And yet, apparently, it didn't.

I'm just impressed you got a run in.

Hang in there

Congrats on Dissing Teh Finnertation, sister!

Yer in Seattle - celebrate with many good microbrews!

Reason I haven't blogged: I haven't been running.

You wrote twice the word "work" and I am already tired ...

After moving to California the hills there (Santa Clara itself is flat, but there are hills within a few miles) killed my butt and upper hamstrings and maybe some tendons or something... I learned to drive left-footed so I could switch off, as driving position aggravated the injuries. Eventually I just took time off running and did strength training on my legs. That pretty much solved it.
