I think that, having lived most of my life in the midwest, I have to make a correction to one of your photo captions. In the photo of the cattle guard-cum-border between Colorado and Wyoming you remark that the midwest is strange.
Colorado and Wyoming aren't the midwest, they're the Wild West, of course! However, there are similar things in the midwest. For example, the Illinois-Indiana border near Chicago is marked fittingly by a very expensive tollboth. And the road surface changes there too, from the uneven pavement of the Chicago Skyway to the Indiana Toll Road, where the surface consists of piled-up construction equipment.
Al, you crack me up! I have no witty response for that...
I'm from MA. Anything west of Albany and east of San Francisco is The Midwest (tm).
Whatever Joe. You did your time in the Midwest - you know there is a difference between the midwest and Wyoming. Don't deny your Illinoisan past :-)
